Our Learning
In our class we use Letters and Sounds to help with our phonics, which is a programme based on high quality phonic teaching. Children in year 1 are formally assessed using the Phonics Screening Test. Year 2 children are formally assessed using the Key Stage 1 SATs which take place during the month of May, however writing assessments carry on into June so it essential Year 2 children attend school during April, May and June.
Class 2 cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The topic overviews provided give an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term. You can view this year’s topics here:
Reading in Class 2
All of the children are encouraged to read daily and to foster a love of reading, choosing to do it for pleasure. Books are shared regularly and celebrated in class. Children are rewarded for reading at home or with an adult with Class Dojos.
- Our class text for this term is ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt.
- Mrs Hart is currently reading ‘Naturally Tan’ by Tan France.
