Science

Science

Science is a body of knowledge built up through the experimental testing of ideas. Science is also a practical way of finding reliable answers to questions we may ask about the world around us. Science at Castleside Primary School is about developing children’s ideas and ways of working that enable them to explore and make sense of the world around them. In essence, the children are taught to think and work ‘like a scientist’, posing and investigating the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of their world.

Science in the EYFS

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum supports children’s understanding of Science through the planning and teaching of ‘Understanding the World.’ In order to facilitate  learning effectively, we feel it is important to provide our children with opportunities for play and exploration, both independently and with the guidance of a supporting adult. Our children are encouraged to use their natural environment around them to explore. Children enjoy spending time outdoors exploring insects and their habitats, observing the changing seasons and investigating plants and animals. Children regularly participate in cookery and baking sessions which allows them to experience changes in state as ingredients are mixed, heated and cooled.
